The Murder of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman
On 12th June 1994 Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman were found dead outside of Nicole's home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Autopsy's confirmed that the cause of death was the injuries suffered from the knife attack.
OJ Simpson, Nicole's ex husband was an obvious person of interest as he was jealous of Nicole's new found friendship with Ron Goldman. OJ had met Nicole when she was 17 and worked as a waitress - OJ had an affair with Nicole. He divorced his wife in 1979 and then perused a marriage with Nicole in 1985 and they then went onto have two kids - Sydney and Justin.
During the trial, allegations emerged about OJ's abusive relationship towards Nicole, but OJ or his legal team did not comment straight away when asked by Romper about the allegations. Their marriage ended in 1989, just seven years after getting together.
At the scene of the crime police found a lot of blood and one neighbour said he heard dogs barking near the house when the bodies were found. Police had interviewed OJ for 3 hours, but they didn't arrest him, even though the blood stains that were found on OJ's car which was two miles from the attack and also found a bloody glove in his house. His attorney denied the evidence even though the blood from OJ's car matched the blood found at crime scene.
OJ's attorney removed himself from the case as he had a close relationship with OJ. Robert Shapiro was the new attorney and had told the media OJ had been waiting for a car to take him to the airport at home for a flight to Chicago to do a promotional event when the murders took place. Apparently his car, which was a Ford Bronco was taken into police custody.
On June 17th, LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) had a warrant for OJ's arrest and OJ was charged with both murders. OJ went on a police chase after hearing the news - he essentially fled - once he was caught he was found with $8000, a loaded gun, makeup, family photos, a fake beard, a passport and a set of clothes. OJ's trial lasted 8 months. the amount of DNA evidence found suggested guilt, but OJ's defence said the crime scene evidence had been contaminated by poor and biased detective work. OJ Simpson was found not guilty for the murder of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman. What do you think?
